Caring for your pieces
Natural minerals last for ages with a little care. A few things worth knowing:
Cleaning
Wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid soaps and chemical cleaners, which can dull a polished surface.
Water
Many minerals are soft, porous or dissolve in water: selenite, calcite, fluorite and most clusters. Keep them dry. Polished quartz and agate tolerate a quick rinse.
Sunlight
Strong direct sun can fade some stones over time, notably amethyst, rose quartz, fluorite and citrine. A spot out of direct sunlight keeps colours at their best.
Handling & display
Clusters and specimens have delicate points; lift them from the base, not the crystals. A soft surface or stand protects polished pieces from chips.
